i've been reading about 6sigma for process improvement. How does this effect the SDLC for software development?
What is the significance of 6sigma in software development?
SDLC itself is a documented process suitable for software development. So when an organisation adopts the SDLC framework in for software development, it is subjected to organisation's dynamics. Hence, the SDLC is often adapted to fit each organisation. You can therefore use 6sigma methodologies to identify and improve the SDLC process specific for the organisation.
For example, if the process for bug reporting within SDLC is paper-based, you can use 6sigma methodologies to study the effectiveness of the paper-based process for bug reporting, and maybe (or maybe not) arrive at a conclusion that it will be an improvement if an electronic/online bug reporting system is used instead.
