How hard is it to gain experience in software development?

I am thinking about obtaining my b.s. in software development online. I have been told that is hard to get hired by prospective companies without any work experience in IT. How can I gain experience if I can not get hired without it? I need to know before I waste my money.

How hard is it to gain experience in software development?
In I.T., experience is everything. My clients never ask me for credentials. They just want to know that I can help them.

I would recommend that you start by searching google for "Beginners programming tutorials" or something similar. You will find tons of free resources. Next, think up some random (small) program that you'd like to try to develop. In your spare time, just start working with it, using google whenever you need help. This is how I learned XHTML/CSS and PHP.

I own WCC (http://www.WCCtechHelp.com), a company providing tech support, website design, and hosting.

Best of Luck!
